Who are the decision makers?
The Resident Coordinator heads the UN system in Tajikistan and at the same time she is the Resident Representative of UNDP in Tajikistan. The UNDP’s Country Director is responsible for the day-to-day work of UNDP Tajikistan, assisted by the Deputy Country Director.
UNDP Tajikistan works in close partnership with the Government of Tajikistan. Each year, the Government of Tajikistan and UNDP sign an Annual Work Plan, specifying the planned activities for the year, project by project.
Dr. Pratibha Mehta has been with United Nations for the past 21 years and currently serves as a UN Resident Coordinator ad interim and UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan. She has been in services of UN as a UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam (2011-2016), UN Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Yemen (2008-2011) and a UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia (2004-2008). Dr. Pratibha Mehta has joined UNDP in 1997 and worked as a Global Coordinator for Local Initiatives for Environment programme in Management Development and Governance Division of UNDP in New York. Later in 2000, she was appointed as a Senior Policy Adviser. Prior to joining UNDP, Dr. Pratibha Mehta has worked in a number of senior development positions in India and Canada. She was awarded a State Award of Unity Star by the President of Yemen in 2011, a Polar Star by the President of Mongolia in 2014 and State Friendship Award by the President of Vietnam in 2016 upon her completion of the tour duties in those particular countries. Dr. Pratibha Mehta has PhD in Psychology from the Indian Institute of management in India, certificate in Gender and Sustainable Development from DPU/University of London and Masters in Child Development from Delhi University in India.
Sanja Bojanic, Deputy Resident Representative, joined UNDP Tajikistan in 2016. Prior to this, Sanja Bojanic led Democratic Governance and Economy & Environment portfolios and managed regional environmental programme involving 6 countries. With her strong technical expertise in development she contributed to the strategic positioning, results and visibility of the 5 UNDP offices. Prior to joining UNDP, Sanja Bojanic worked on supporting transition process and private sector development in the Development Fund in Montenegro. She has co-authorized publications on a range of topics including economics, business and administration. Sanja Bojanic holds MBAi degree from the Graduate School of International Economics and Finance at Brandeis University in Boston, USA; M.A. in Entrepreneurial Economics and B.A. in Economics from the School of Economics at the University of Montenegro. In addition, she completed a specialized course at the Caledonian University in Scotland, UK.
Mubin Rustamov, with almost 20 years of experience in programme and project management, is leading the UNDP programme unit in Tajikistan since 2014. Mubin has experienced in conflict and post conflict environment. For more than 10 years he has provided technical and policy advice in public reform. With educational background in International Relations and World Economy, Mubin’s experience also includes overseeing multi-donor, multisector and multipartner programmes. Currently, Mubin is responsible for overall guidance and leading of the programme unit of UNDP Country Office, strategic programming and delivery of country portfolio, ensuring partnership with donor organizations, government counterparts and civil society and private sector.
