Towards energy transition

UNDP assists the government of Tajikistan in addressing energy, water and environment issues according to the national priorities and strategies in these sectors through its Energy and Environment Programme (EEP). Within the programme UNDP supports the development of capacities to negotiate, ratify and implement major international conventions, to develop transnational policy and legal frameworks on sustainable natural resources management, and to pilot alternative renewable technologies including hydro & solar power and energy-efficiency best practices.

From 2010 to 2019, the Energy and Environment Programme has provided a mix of policy advice, project development and implementation services, knowledge management and advocacy services, benefitting from UNDP global initiatives on sustainable use of natural resources, climate change mitigation through promoting renewable energy and chemicals wastes disposal and management.

The EEP has been implementing projects to strengthen environment management on several levels, including enhancement of legislation, monitoring current state, and supporting governmental bodies, as well as local communities, in transitioning to more efficient energy solutions.
