    On March 14 2015, an official handover ceremony of the community based water supply project was held in jamoat Childuhtaron of Muminobod district, Khatlon region. The project was executed by NGO “ACTED” within the New World: Inclusive Sustainable Human Development partnership initiative of UNDP and the Coca Cola Company. The new Water Supply System will benefit 1,125 people (541 men & 584 women) of 3 remote villages, namely Childuhtaron, Pakhmdara and Navobod. The local population greatly contributed to the project implementation by digging 13km of trenches for the installation of an inter-village water supply line. Sustainability of the project was assured through close collaboration with local and national governing bodies, civil society organizations and direct involvement of project beneficiaries in the establishment of community based organization (Water Cooperative), responsible for proper management, maintenance and operation of constructed WSSs.

  • Supporting Government Relief Efforts in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast Mar 7, 2016

    On 07 March 2016, UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme delivered 22,000 liters of aviation fuel to be used for delivery of food items and construction materials to remote and earthquake affected villages of Bartang valley in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) of Tajikistan. Current support was provided through OCHA Emergency Cash Grant of 100,000 US Dollars for procurement of aviation fuel and coal, and is a part of a continued assistance provided by UNDP to support Government’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts following the 7.2-Magnitude earthquake that hit Murghab in December 2015.

    Dushanbe, 24 February 2016 – In the conference hall of Dushanbe-Plaza, took place the Inter-Ministerial Working Group meeting on drinking water supply and sanitation in the framework of “National Policy Dialogue on Integrated Water Resources Management” with participation of responsible ministries and agencies, civil society and international organizations, actively involved in development of drinking water supply and sanitation (WS&S) sector in Tajikistan.

  • UN Agencies supporting sustainable peace and development Feb 17, 2016

    Dushanbe, February 17, 2016. The Steering Committee meeting of the Project “Cross-border Cooperation for Sustainable Peace and Development” took place at the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan. The Project is funded by the United Nations Peace building Support Office/ Peace building Fund (PBF) - $1,500,000.0 and Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) - $1,011,705.0 and expected to be implemented by the group of UN Agencies (UNDP, WFP, UNICEF, UN-Women and FAO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and other national counterparts.

  • UNDP promotes localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Tajikistan by strengthening the capacity of Sughd region local experts on planning and monitoring tools Feb 8, 2016

    From 2 through February 7, 2016 UNDP together with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) as part of the joint project of UNDP and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) "Poverty Initiative and Environment" (PEI) organized 2-day training on Sustainable Development Planning with participation of local experts, civil society and business community representatives. The curriculum was developed based on the "Methodological manual for cities and districts development and implementation programs" adopted by the MEDT and was presented by the group of environmental and economic experts with the UNDP Communities Programme PEI and SENACAM projects.

    Dushanbe, January 21, 2016. The 4th Steering Committee meeting of “ Project for Livelihood Improvement in Tajik-Afghan Cross-border Areas (LITACA) project has gathered representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, JICA Tajikistan and Afghanistan and UNDP representatives from both countries.

  • Humanitarian Assistance Continues after 7,2 Magnitude Earthquake Jan 20, 2016

    On 20 January 2016, UNDP’s Disaster Risk Management Programme through OCHA’s Emergency Cash Grant completed delivery of 297 tonnes of coal to earthquake-affected population of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) of Tajikistan. Provision of coal to most vulnerable households was delivered by UNDP DRMP in two batches: 97 tonnes distributed on 27-28 December 2015 and 200 tonnes distributed on 16-20 January 2016.

  • Renovated study building opened its door for the students Dec 30, 2015

    Newly renovated study building opened its door for the students of the Vocational school #77 of Jamoat Navgilem on New Year's Eve December 30, 2015, in Jamoat Navgilem Isfara district of Sughd Region the official opening ceremony of the renovated and equipped study building of the Vocational school #77 has been held, supported within the project “Livelihood improvement of rural population in the nine districts of Tajikistan” implemented by UNDP Tajikistan, with the financial support of the Government of the Russian Federation. One of the important objectives of the project is to enhance the capacity of vocational schools and to provide labor market with highly skilled specialists.

  • UNDP and the Government of Switzerland to Support the Civil Registration Reforms in Tajikistan Dec 16, 2015

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Tajikistan signed the Project on ‘Support to the Civil Registry System Reform in Tajikistan’ with financial contribution from the Government of Switzerland. The project will support the Government of Tajikistan in reforming the civil registry system by improving its functioning nationwide and making it responsive to the needs of the population, especially the most vulnerable groups.

  • Press Release. Meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Tajikistan Dec 9, 2015

    A regular meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction was held on 4 December 2015, with participation of 19 representatives of ministries and 12 international agencies and donors. The First Deputy Chairman of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mr. Khayriddin Abdurahimov, Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan chaired the meeting.
