  • Supporting Livelihoods in Sarichashma Jamoat, Shuroobod District Sep 4, 2015

    On September 4th 2015, UNDP Tajikistan launched the first distribution of 58 milk cows to 58 households affected by disasters in April 2014. The cows will support the livelihood recovery of disaster-affected households. The livelihoods support was funded through UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support as part of the post-disaster Recovery to Resilience Programme being implemented in collaboration with local Government authorities. In total, 101 milk cows will be distributed to all affected households.

  • UNDP improves access of nearly 2700 rural population to health and water services Sep 4, 2015

    4 September 2015. Hamadoni district. Inauguration and opening ceremony of 2 (two) social infrastructure projects has been conducted in Hamadoni district of Khatlon Region. It happened due to support provided by the Government of Japan, through JICA supported “Livelihood Improvement in Tajik-Afghan Cross-border Areas (LITACA)” project implemented by UNDP Tajikistan. Now local population of Kahramon jamoat have an access to clean drinking water and newly constructed medical house in Saiyod village of Turdiev jamoat can provide timely medical services for inhabitants.

  • UNDP improves the access to education for 200 schoolchildren in Panj district Sep 1, 2015

    Sep 1, 2015, Panj District. The inauguration ceremony of newly constructed secondary school # 37 in 15 Solagii Tojikiston village of Kabut Sayfiddinov Jamoat was held on Tuesday, 1st of September 2015 in Panj district of Khatlon Region. e The school construction was implemented in the framework of UNDP “Project for Livelihood Improvement in Tajik-Afghan Cross-border Areas (LITACA)”.The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the district and the representatives of UNDP Tajikistan.

  • Water management organizations in Isfara river basin received 7 excavators from UNDP in Tajikistan Jul 27, 2015

    Isfara, 27 July 2015 – At the premises of Isfara Department of Land Reclamation and Irrigation, took place official hand-over ceremony of 7 excavator-loaders provided by the UNDP in Tajikistan for the state and public water management organizations in Isfara river basin. Excavators were distributed one for each Departments of Land Reclamation and Irrigation in Isfara and Kanibadam, Federation of WUAs, Water Users Associations “Chorku”, “Matpari”, “Mehnatobod-Vorukh” and “Ghuzlon”. Various assessments indicate that chronic lack of investments in water and agriculture resulted in continued degradation of irrigation systems, and to date inter-farm and on-farm water losses reach around 40% in most parts of Tajikistan. Increasing number of farmer reports on water deficits at downstream communities are one of important issues that local water authorities have to deal with on a daily basis. In particular, UNDP assessment “Potential for peace and Threats of Conflict” identified ‘water’ among others (land, pastures, etc) as one of factors for the inter-ethnic relations in the border areas in Isfara river basin between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

    Press-release: Regarding recent publications about the Global Fund’s Office of Inspector General report on one Sub-Recipient (CYST) procurement irregularities. Over the past twelve years the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria provided to Tajikistan more than 148mln USD to support the implementation of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria programmes and enable thousands of people in Tajikistan to receive improved quality of care, reduce new infections and keep people alive. With this generous support from the Global Fund and successful management by UNDP, as a Principal Recipient of these grants, Tajikistan made a tremendous progress in combating HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria. Current incidence of malaria is close to zero, bringing the country towards attainment of Millennium Development Goal 6 objective of malaria free status by the end of 2015 with only 7 malaria cases detected in 2014 compared to 30,000 cases in 1997. A notable decrease in the prevalence of HIV among risk groups of population has been achieved. Technical and financial support to the national blood services helped to ensure 100% testing of blood samples for HIV and other infectious diseases and around 2166 people living with HIV were getting antiretroviral treatment by the end of 2014 compared with 635 people in 2010.

  • Representation of persons with disabilities in the media Jul 3, 2015

    25 journalists from all Tajikistan’s regions working in electronic and print media participate in a 2 day interactive awareness raising training organised by the League of Women with Disabilities “Ishtiroq” in cooperation with UNDP. ‘This is the first time in my 25 years long professional career that journalists have an opportunity to learn from women with disabilities about stigma they, children and men with disabilities face. Through practical examples we are able to experience some prejudice and barriers they live with every day’ – stated Mr Akbarali Sattor, Chair of Union of Journalist of Tajikistan.

  • UNDP Administrator and Deputy Administrator visit Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre Jun 9, 2015

    Dushanbe, 9 June 2015 The Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Helen Clark and Ms. Cihan Sultanoğlu, UNDP’s Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS visited the Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre (TNMAC). The Center was established as an independent national entity by the Government of Tajikistan in January 2014. Since 2003 a comprehensive mine action programme had been set up and coordinated with the support of UNDP. “Nationalizing Tajikistan’s mine action center is an important step towards taking on full national ownership”, explained Deputy Director Alisho Shomahmadov during the visit.

  • Tajikistan launches a joint partnership programme for the promotion and inclusion of the rights of persons with disabilities Mar 10, 2015

    Dushanbe, 10 March 2015 - The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, the Ombudsman’s Office, civil society organizations and three UN organisations, namely the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the first joint partnership programme to promote the rights of adults and children with disabilities in Tajikistan. The programme on “Building and Strengthening Alliances for Inclusive Policies and Communities for Persons with Disabilities in Tajikistan 2015 - 2016”is a two-year partnership programme supported by the United Nations Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) Trust Fund.

    Dushanbe, 10 March 2015 – UNDP Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development office in Geneva has launched a mission on Investment Policy Review to Tajikistan, from 3 to 21 March 2015. The mission is being organized in close coordination and collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, and other relevant state bodies.

  • UNDP jointly with the Embassy of Turkey to Tajikistan strengthens the business relations of Tajik and Turkish entrepreneurs Jan 28, 2015

    27-28 January 2015, Dushanbe and Khujand cities. More than 84 entrepreneurs of Tajikistan had an opportunity to get acquainted with the principles and features of doing business with their Turkish counterparts in special information sessions organized by the Trade Promotion Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan with the support of the UNDP Aid for Trade project (AFT) and the Turkish Embassy to Tajikistan. The information sessions were held in Dushanbe for the entrepreneurs from Dushanbe, Khatlon region and Districts of Republican Subordinate, and in Khujand city for the entrepreneurs of Sughd region.
