Integrated Water Resources Management in the context of Sustainable DevelopmentAug 10, 201610 August 2016, Dushanbe - High-Level Symposium on SDG 6 and Targets: Ensuring that no one is left behind in access to water and sanitation was held on 09-11 August in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The Government of Tajikistan convened the Symposium to highlight the vital importance of water and sanitation across 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Organized by the Government of Tajikistan, the main objective of the Symposium was to provide a platform for a focused and balanced discussion on policy measures, actions and means of implementation to fast-track implementation of the water-related SDGs, and consideration of recent country experiences in advancing integrated water resource management through international cooperation and innovative solutions.
Russian Federation – UNDP Trust Fund for Development Supports Emergency Preparedness and Response Capacities in TajikistanAug 5, 2016Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 05 August, 2016. The Government of the Russian Federation will be making a US$1.5 million contribution towards the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tajikistan to support the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacities in the country. Today UNDP held an official signing ceremony of the Project Document “Strengthening Preparedness and Response Capacities” project which was approved by the Russian Federation - UNDP Trust Fund for Development.
BORDER MANAGEMENT AWARENESS COURSE FOR BORDER POLICE OFFICERSJul 29, 2016Dushanbe, Friday 29 July. UNDP Tajikistan’s borders projects successfully completed their 17th Border Management Awareness (BMA) Course for Afghan and Tajik beneficiaries, held at the OSCE’s Border Management Staff College (BMSC) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The course brought together 22 Afghan Border Police Officers, including two women, and four Tajik Border Force Officers, also including two women. This was the first BMA course to deliver training to male and female Officers together, and worked extremely well. International experts from Moldova and America delivered some training but most experts were from Tajikistan itself, reflecting our belief that wherever possible Afghan and Tajik beneficiaries should be trained by experts from their own countries.
THE GUIDELINES FOR SOCIAL WORKERS AND HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS ON CASE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY TO WORK WITH PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV PRESENTED IN DUSHANBEJul 15, 201613 June 2016, Dushanbe, Tajikistan – United Nations Development Programme in Tajikistan through UN Joint Advocacy Project on HIV/AIDS and with technical support from the National Association of Social Workers “Faroshturuk” conducted a round table discussion in Tajikistan. This round table presented the first methodological guidelines for social workers and health care professionals on case management technology in social work activities with vulnerable groups.

UNDP supports conduction of the annual Trade Fair “Sughd-2016”Jun 20, 201617-18 June, Khujand - The two-day International Trade Fair “Sughd-2016”, which started their work in Khujand gives the opportunity for over 100 Tajik producers and manufacturers, as well as producers from other countries to showcase their products, link up with their regional counterparts, and look for new partners for export of their products. Within the framework of the International Trade Fair, two international forums the “Food Forum” and the “Knowledge and Technology Transfer Forum” will be held, collecting over 200 private and public sector, as well as international organization representatives together to discuss the topics.
Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator & UNDP Regional Director for Europe and the CIS visited TajikistanJun 14, 2016Ms. Cihan Sultanoğlu, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, visited Tajikistan from 12 to 14 June. During her visit Ms. Sultanoğlu, together with H.E. Sirojiddin Aslov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, opened the High-Level Experts Meeting on Finding Development Solutions to Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) and the UN Information Resource Center in the Tajik–Russian Slavonic University in Dushanbe.
Tackling the structural causes of extremism requires development solutions, says Head of UNDP in Europe and CISJun 13, 2016Dushanbe – Combatting the rise of violent extremism in Central Asia and beyond will require long-term measures that include creating life opportunities for young people and a chance to serve and shape the future of their communities, said experts at a conference on the phenomenon that opened here today. “Comprehensive approaches are needed and there is a growing understanding that top-down, security-based approaches to countering violent extremism are not sufficient to deal with this complex phenomenon,” said Cihan Sultanoğlu, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS. Opening the event with Sirodjidin Aslov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Tajikistan, Ms. Sultanoğlu said the focus should be on addressing “the structural causes and drivers of violent extremism – problems like economic and social exclusion, inequality and injustice, the rejection of cultural and religious diversity, shrinking civic space and restrictions on basic democratic freedoms.”
