  • TRANSFORMING SOCIAL ASSISTANCE AT HOME UNITS IS CONTRIBUTION TO CLOSURE OF GAPS IN SOCIAL SERVICE PROVISION IN THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN Nov 7, 2016

    November 3, 2016, Dushanbe, Tajikistan –UN Joint Advocacy Project on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF) with technical support from the Social Protection Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan (MoHSPP) and Social Protection Policy Analysis Unit of MoHSPP conducted a round table, where the outcomes of the functional review of the Social Assistance at Home Units (SAHU) in Tajikistan was presented. Around 25 representatives from the MoHSPP, Social Protection Policy Analysis Unit under the MoHSPP, State Agency on Social Protection of the Population, National and International Organizations, Experts and Donors took part at the event.

  • Establishing Cooperation and Fostering Partnerships for Conservation of Ecosystems of Snow Leopard Nov 4, 2016

    Priorities of cooperation with partners on the issues of conservation of snow leopards’ ecosystems and providing sustainable livelihoods of local communities were the purpose of the round table, held on November 4, 2016, in Dushanbe and devoted to the International Snow Leopard Day, celebrated on 23rd of October. With the purpose of obtaining information and assessing capacities of partners, a series of field works was carried out by the UNDP/GEF project "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Pamir Alay and Tien Shan Ecosystems for Snow Leopard Protection and Sustainable Community Livelihoods" from October 05-27, 2016, in Turkestan, Kuramin, Zeravshan, Hissar-Karategin mountain ranges, Gorno-Badakhshan, and Tavildara and Jirgatol districts.

  • Regional Workshop on “Gender and Diversity in Mine Action” Nov 3, 2016

    On 2 – 3 November a Regional Workshop on Gender and Diversity in Mine Action is being held in Dushanbe city. This important event is an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Tajikistan National Mine Action Center (TNMAC), in cooperation with the Geneva-based organization, Gender and Mine Action Programme, which trains and supports organizations in the integration of a gender and diversity perspective into mine action programmes.

    On the 20th of October , started 2-day international conference on “Promoting the Development of Renewable Energy Sources and Improvement of Energy Efficiency at the Community Level in Central Asia”, which is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan jointly with the United Nations Development Programme in Tajikistan in partnership with the Michigan State University, the Institute for Global Engagement and the Sistemavtomatika Company.

  • OPTIMISM LEADS DURING AFGHAN STUDENTS’ TRAINING IN DUSHANBE Oct 13, 2016

    Twenty members of the Afghan Border Police recently met at OSCE headquarters in Dushanbe, Tajikistan for training sponsored by UNDP’s EU-BOMNAF Project. The students were in high spirits throughout the duration of the course, and enjoyed broad discussions on issues ranging from counter-terrorism to inter-agency cooperation. While a healthy level of debate and conversation on each topic arose, ultimately the students were in agreement on the most important aspects of training, which will undoubtedly benefit them as they go forth in their professional careers

  • SIMULATING EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE IN TAJIKISTAN FOR BETTER PREPAREDNESS Oct 13, 2016

    (Dushanbe, 13 October 2016) – hundreds of urgent e-mails and rushed meetings later, humanitarian partners in Dushanbe lay down their numerous gadgets and conclude a two-day simulation exercise that tested their preparedness for emergencies. Due to Tajikistan’s high propensity to natural disasters, humanitarian organizations that make up the Rapid Emergency Assessment and Coordination Team (REACT) regularly conduct simulation exercises that help them understand how well the humanitarian community on the ground is prepared to respond to large-scale emergencies. REACT is co-chaired by the Committee of Emergency Situations of Tajikistan and includes representatives of all humanitarian organizations active in the country.

    Tajik Norwegian Centre for Sustainable development with the support of UNDP conducted a seminar in the framework of UNDPs - GoAL WaSH subproject: “Support in the implementation of an improved tariff policy for the sector of drinking water supply and sanitation in the Republic of Tajikistan”. Senior representatives of the ministries and agencies, public and international organizations that are actively involved in the development of the sector of drinking water supply and sanitation in Tajikistan participated.

  • UNDP, Government of Japan Support to Strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Capacities in Tajikistan Sep 7, 2016

    Dushanbe, 07 September, 2016 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Governments of Tajikistan and Japan signed today a new, four year project that is expected to benefit people in Tajikistan and Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Takhar and Kunduz Provinces) through strengthening the two countries’ disaster risk reduction and response capacities and the promotion of cross-border cooperation with Afghanistan to improve disaster response in line with the call under the latest “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue.
