Tajikistan Poverty-Environment Initiative Phase II is officially launched
February 19, 2014. Dushanbe. The United Nations Development Programme in Tajikistan organized an Inception Workshop to officially launch Phase II of the Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI). The PEI is a global UNDP-UNEP programme that helps countries to integrate poverty-environment linkages into national and sub-national development planning, from policymaking to budgeting, implementation and monitoring.
During the Inception Workshop, the results and lessons learnt of the PEI Phase I, as well as Phase II project document have been presented. The PEI Phase II presentation introduced the objectives, activities envisaged, the implementation mechanism, sustainability measures outlined, the involvement of stakeholders and cross-cutting issues. Following the presentations, participants discussed project activities along with the poverty-environment context in the country and shared ideas for Phase II to ensure the achievement of expected results.
Funded by the Poverty-Environment Facility, the PEI Phase II covers the period from 2014 to 2017 and is designed to enhance the substantial economic, social and environmental results achieved during Phase I. The new Phase seeks to facilitate the elaboration and adoption of comprehensive strategies and strengthening institutions at the national and local levels so that they are able to better address existing poverty and environmental issues. It also aims at facilitating transition to greener and inclusive growth.
