 UNDP and USAID provides assistance to the entrepreneurs from Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries in establishing business relations with the entrepreneurs from Afghanistan and Pakistan

 23-24 June, 2014, Hyatt Regency Hotel Dushanbe. Tajik entrepreneurs explore the opportunities for regional trade and investment cooperation between the entrepreneurs from Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan at the Economic Business forum which was held in “Business to Business” format and organized by UNDP Aid for Trade project (AFT) jointly with USAID Afghanistan trade and revenue Project (ATAR), with close cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This meeting provides a unique opportunity for private sector representatives from Tajikistan in the field of exploring foreign economic activity conditions in the Central Asian countires by strengthening relations, business promotion and expansion to the neighboring countries markets, as trade, investment and economic cooperation are essential for Tajikistan and other Central and South Asia countries.

As it was noted by Ms. Gulru Kayumova, the Deputy Minister of MEDT – “nowadays  a good platform is created for new ideas, cooperation and entrepreneurship development. It is possible to reach increase in the foreign economic indicators between countries of the region through joint effort, and the Government of Tajikistan will support such kind of cooperation between the private sector representatives”.

 U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Susan Elliott, noted – “the United States ready to assist in promotion further expansion of economic relationships between Central Asia and South Asia. Regional stability depends on economic stability of the countries of the region“.

Assistant to Resident Representative/Programme of UNDP Tajikistan, Mr. Mubin Rustamov in his welcoming speech noted – “UNDP pays high attention to the development of integration processes among the countries of the Central Asia region and Afghanistan, which will strengthen the mutually beneficial relations, and contribute to stability and security in the region. Economic relations and in particular trade are one of the main instruments for dialogue and beneficial cooperation between the countries”.

The forum was attended by over 140 participants representing businesses of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan (food processing and textile industries, construction construction materials), representatives of governmental institutions, international organizations, business associations, local non-governmental organizations, mass media and etc. During the Forum the entrepreneurs agreed on joint activities and expanding of economic opportunities.
