UNDP improves the access to health services in Jilikul districtSep 7, 2015
7 September 2015. The inauguration ceremony of newly constructed rural outpatient clinic in Dusti village within the framework of UNDP “Project for Livelihood Improvement in Tajik-Afghan Cross-border Areas (LITACA)” was held in Jilikul district of Khatlon Region. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Rajabali Rajabov, Deputy Chairman of Khatlon Region, Mr. Khujamurod Fazliddin, District Chairman and the representatives of UNDP Tajikistan.
“Construction of rural outpatient clinic in Dusti village was indicated as a priority in the District Development Programme for 2012-2016 and is in line with the national strategies. It is constructed in the framework of LITACA project that covers 8 cross border districts of Khatlon Region. This clinic is valued as a good gift to the inhabitants of the district at the eve of the 24th anniversary of the Independence Day of Tajikistan”, mentioned Mr. Rajabali Rajabov.
Previous rural outpatient clinic in Dusti village was located in one of the utility structured common private house, and was inadequate for therapeutic purposes as it didn’t meet any sanitary standards. However, despite unfavorable facilities the medical staff treated patients in these conditions nonetheless. Thanks to the construction of a new outpatient clinic more than 3,584 (1,757 female) inhabitants of the village have an opportunity to receive medical services with improved facilities and enabling conditions.
“Access to medical services in the village was limited due to poor conditions in the old building of rural health center. Now population of the village as well as neighboring villages have an opportunity to visit the new, comfortable and equipped medical centre ”, said Mr. Eshbekov Khushbaht, representative of the village elders.
The LITACA project is a three-year initiative financed by the Government of Japan through JICA. The Project is implemented in both sides of the border covering eight cross-border districts of Khatlon Province of Tajikistan and three cross-border districts of Kunduz and Takhar Provinces of Afghanistan. The total amount of Project’s budget is US$10.7mln.
