This workshop follows the recent commitment of the World Leaders to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals), which require close cooperation among all stakeholders. The AKT Consortium is a platform that pools the resources of the public and private sectors to particularly reach Goal 1 (no poverty), Goal 2 (zero hunger), Goal 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure) and Goal 17 (partnerships for the goals) among others.
The AKT Consortium’s focus on supporting investment in agro-food industries and increased involvement of rural producers to regional value chains is absolutely vital in the light of the fact that global agricultural production needs to grow by 60 percent between 2005 and 2050 to both feed the world’s growing population and employ the 70% of the world’s poor who live in rural areas.Contact information
