JOINT ADVOCACY PROJECT ON HIV/AIDSApr 20, 2016

On April 15, 2016, UN Joint Advocacy Project on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF) in Tajikistan, in cooperation with national and international partners organized the Project Board Meeting to approve the Annual Work Plan of the UN Joint Advocacy Project on HIV/AIDS (UNJAP).
The event has brought together around 20 representatives from Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of Tajikistan (MHSP), Tajik National University (TNU), National Coordination Committee on fighting against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (NCC), UN Agencies, Networks of people living with HIV and Civil Society Organizations.
Ms. Sanja Bojanic, Deputy Country Director, UNDP Tajikistan in her opening speech has mentioned that “the Project Board Meeting is a good mechanism to share the information in regard of Project activities and address the concerns with provision of inputs for its implementation”.
Mr. Beknazarov, NCC Executive Secretary, has mentioned that “UNJAP raises the issues of preventions of HIV and advocacy of the rights of PLHIV this time through the social protection sector reform. Thanks to the UNDP leadership and joint programming with UNAIDS, UNFPA and UNICEF, the NCC will play a key role not only in the Health but also in the Social Protection, which supports implementation of HIV long term strategy in Tajikistan. It is encouraging that for the realization of the objectives within the framework of the UN Joint Project, we will work closely with MHSP, TNU and non-governmental organizations and today's presentation by our strategic partners should serve as the beginning of our fruitful cooperation”.
In his welcoming speech Mr. Kudratullo Kurbonov, head of Social Protection Department of MHSP, has emphasized that “the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population has been working with UNDP mostly on the health issues and engagement in the social protection system reform will increase the effectiveness and service improvement for vulnerable population including PLHIV”.
During this meeting, the presentation of the MHSP on improving social services for PLHIV and presentation of Tajik National University on enhancing the quality of social work services towards PLHIV highlighted the current situation and activities of implementing partners for the period of 2016. Participants also discussed the issues regarding intensifying the national efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS in the country.
It should be noted that the Project Board agreed upon next steps for realization of the UNJAP Annual Work Plan activities for 2016 and emphasized the monitoring and ownership of the Government as the main factors for achieving results in the project. The Project Board will be used as a mechanism for exchanging the ideas and results during the implementation, as well as clarifications on the roles and functions of MHSP and TNU in the components of the UNJAP.
