Regional Workshop on “Gender and Diversity in Mine Action”Nov 3, 2016
On 2 – 3 November a Regional Workshop on Gender and Diversity in Mine Action is being held in Dushanbe city. This important event is an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Tajikistan National Mine Action Center (TNMAC), in cooperation with the Geneva-based organization, Gender and Mine Action Programme, which trains and supports organizations in the integration of a gender and diversity perspective into mine action programmes.
The aim of the regional workshop is to present good practices of gender and diversity mainstreaming in mine action and share concrete experiences between countries in the region. The main goal is supporting a society in which women, girls, boys and men can equally participate in and benefit from all humanitarian mine action activities, and have equal rights and access to decision making.
Training sessions will be conducted by international experts from Switzerland, Afghanistan, Australia, Serbia and Tajikistan. The representatives of humanitarian mine action organizations operating in Tajikistan, as well as national stakeholders are taking part in this workshop. The regional workshop will be followed by a one-day national workshop to develop a Gender and Diversity policy for the Tajikistan Mine Action Programme. The policy will constitute important guidance for decision-making and follow-up action to be undertaken by all the mine action stakeholders of Tajikistan.
This workshop is financially supported by UNDP Tajikistan and the US Department of State.
The conference will be convened on 2–3 November 2016 in “Sheraton” hotel in Dushanbe.
