Meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in TajikistanDec 26, 2016

The National Platform meeting for Disaster Risk Reduction chaired by the Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence/Deputy Chairman of the National Platform, Mr. Rustam Nazarzoda, was held on 26 December with participation of 21 representatives of involved ministries and 22 representatives of international agencies and donors.
During the meeting, participants discussed the results of the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction which was held on 3-5 November 2016 in New Delhi. Also, the Secretariat of the Platform presented the draft National Disaster Risk Management Strategy for 2017-2030 followed by discussion of its components, action plans, funding and implementation mechanisms. Representative of UNDP presented new projects on strengthening disaster risk reduction and response capacities as well as strengthening risk governance. Members of the National Platform reviewed progresses achieved by the DIPECHO-9 implementation partners presented by Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) and got acquainted with the new country programme of World Food Programme for 2016-2020. The meeting has provided an opportunity for National Platform members to discuss the challenges envisaged within new project initiatives supported in 2016 and provide recommendations for their timely implementation.
The Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, Rustam Nazarzoda, called for active participation of the members of the platform in the process of development of the new National strategy for 2017-2030. "Given the large number of hazard prone areas where the risk of natural disasters is high, the adoption of the new Strategy helps to reduce risks and improve resilience of the population’ – said Mr. Nazarzoda.
The National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Tajikistan was established as part of the State Commission for Emergency Situations of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in March 2012.
The Platform serves a consultative and advisory body for coordinating the activities of organizations working on disaster risk management in Tajikistan. The capacity building of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is supported by UNDP with SDC funding.Contact information
