Strengthening Community Resilience and Regional Cooperation in Central Asia

Regional Project is funded by the Government of Japan at the total amount of US$ 1.250 million with the duration of May 2018 - July 2020. The project is implemented by UNDP Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan. Regional component also includes Istanbul Regional Hub and Uzbekistan. The project aims at supporting youth engagement in the communities and improving access to labour markets and decent job opportunities.

Main achievements to date:

  • The local football tournament for 116 boys and volleyball competition for 44 girls were organized and conducted in Kulyab and Dushanbe;
  • 40 (100% men) young men from Kulyab were trained as electricians and welders in line with the local labour market demands and 16 (5 women/ 31%) young men and women from Spitamen district improved their level of Russian language proficiency;
  • Startup trainings for 24 (3 female) young people in Nurobod district were conducted;
  • Master classes in Kulyab and Spitamen districts on bakery and other most relevant types of demanded services in the local labor market, including training on computer skills were conducted;
  • The greenhouse for young farmers in Kulyab city was constructed, providing new jobs for 4 young women from target communities;
  • Youth Centre in Shaartuz district was rehabilitated as place for generation of innovative ideas and solutions for addressing the key challenges youth face;
  • Construction materials were purchased and delivered for overhaul renovation works of educative-production workshop in penitentiary facility in Khujand and for construction of shelter on the workshop for production of burnt bricks in penitentiary facility of Vahdat;
