UNDP Arranges Special Flight for Shipment of Medical Goods to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 2 May, 2020 – People living with HIV or the HIV risk group are most vulnerable due to their underlying medical conditions and to ensure that they receive uninterrupted treatment, on 1st May 2020 UNDP in Tajikistan arranged a special flight with Somon Air to air lift 3.6 tons of life saving Methadone for substitution treatment of People living with HIV.

During the overwhelming challenge of highly infectious COVID-19 pandemic, UNDP Country Office in Tajikistan is ensuring that the most vulnerable are not left behind in prevention and life-saving treatment efforts.

Free space remaining on the flight was offered on cost sharing basis as unused cargo space to other partners to airlift polio vaccines and other essential medicines, as well as bring WHO technical mission to support in COVID-19 response.

In an act facilitated by Germany and EU mission in Tajikistan, the UNDP special flight also gave much awaited opportunity to 117 European citizens to join their families at home. 

“UNDP in Tajikistan is committed to supporting vulnerable people and their wellbeing and also commits to allocating $600.000 for direct response to immediate and long-term impact of COVID-19 in the country,” said UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan.
