UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan presents credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs

Dushanbe, February 07, 2022: The newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tajikistan, Mr. Lenni Montiel, presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin, on February 07, 2022, at Minister’s office.

Welcoming the new resident representative, the Foreign Minister expressed deep appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and UNDP since 1993. He also hoped that the cooperation between Tajikistan and UNDP would be continued to support the implementation of the National Development Strategy till 2030, that goes in line with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Lenni Montiel thanked the Minister for accepting his credential and assured that UNDP would continue to work with the Government of Tajikistan for achieving national and global priorities.

Before joining UNDP Tajikistan, Lenni Montiel served as UNDP Deputy Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean and also served at the UN Secretariat as Assistant Secretary General for Economic Development in UNDESA and as Director for Development at the Executive Office of Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.  He was UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative  in Turkmenistan. He worked also as Global Practice Leader on Local Governance and Decentralization for UNDP. Prior to joining UNDP, Lenni Montiel occupied various positions in the Venezuelan Government in the 1980s and 1990s.
